Interview with Cleopatra

Paperback

Overview

Here is the first title in an exciting new series aimed at ages 8-11! Interview with Cleopatra and Other Famous Rulers (to give its full title) is a fun collection of Q&A chats with ten of history's most fascinating figures.

With appealing comic book-style illustrations by Gareth Conway the book takes us back in time to meet some powerful people including Elizabeth I, Montezuma, Boudica, Genghis Khan and Mansa Musa, the richest man who ever lived, plus Viking big shot Harald Bluetooth:

These kings, queens, emperors and warriors were quite surprised to find a man in a fleece and tatty trainers interviewing them but my trusty tranimalator (adapted for time travel, natch) got me out of trouble when things got a bit nasty and I accidentally insulted someone who employs a busy axeman - which did happen more than once....

The book is crammed with facts about the lives of these important rulers and I meet them all at critical times in their lives. Actually, that's kind of tricky because, well, I know what's going to happen to them next and their destiny is not always, erm, happy let's say... For each figure there is indeed a What Happened Next section to reveal their story after the interview, complete with maps and extra fun facts. Here's me and Shakespeare comparing beards:

This book was ENORMOUS fun to write and will soon be followed by the second title Interview with Blackbeard and Other Vicious Villains - not to be missed!

Reviews

The style, with interviews, the precarious nature of time travelling into the company of Genghis Khan or Harald Bluetooth, for example, and then Gareth Conway’s expressive comic style illustrations make this book so accessible and such fun!
