It’s been quite a week of school visits and library events with a tour of Yorkshire thrown in. I spent over an hour and a half signing books in a school near Barnsley and was bowled over by the enthusiasm for reading shown by both parents and children. An author likes nothing better than to see a queue of people stretching around the hall (just a pity I wasn’t able to take a photo).
This week is going to be even more exciting because I am visiting my new Patron of Reading school, Windwhistle Primary. I am delighted to have been asked to become the school’s adopted author, both because I spent a fantastic three years as Patron at Heather Garth Primary previously and because Windwhistle has such an enthusiasm to develop reading for pleasure. They have great plans to get all children enjoying books (and seeing the rewards) and I am delighted to be a part of that.
The school is located in Weston-super-Mare in Somerset and has a great staff team led by the inspirational Lyn Hunt. I am really looking forward to meeting the children and getting them fired up to read.
