On Saturday 20th October Ryedale Book Festival is coming to Malton, the historic Yorkshire market town between York and Scarborough. So, what’s it all about?
Well it’s a day packed with events for everyone who loves reading, books, poetry, stories and having fun! There will be authors of all kinds, children’s workshops and a huge range of events for ages:
- Readings
- Meet the author sessions
- Poetry
- Open Mic
- Story writing competitions
- Signings
- Book Fair
- Literary quiz hosted by top TV comic Arthur Smith
- Poetry comps
- and more
Visit http://ryedalebookfestival.com/Welcome.html to see what’s on offer. Tickets are available from Malton Tourist info in the town’s library.
I’ll be involved in two events: a ‘Meet Three Authors’ lunch where I’ll be speaking along with novelist Fiona Shaw and children’s picture book writer M Christina Butler. It’s at the very good Old Lodge Hotel, Malton and tickets cost £15 to include a 2-course meal. 12.30-2pm.
Later in the afternoon I’ll be signing copies of my bestselling All Teachers series of memoirs in the Milton Rooms (in the market place) and then I’m a judge in a children’s poetry performance competition for 10 local primary schools called The P-Factor. The grand final is at 3.30pm and a panel of authors plus Di Keal the Mayor of Norton will be judging the winners as well as making comments a la X-Factor (except we are not nasty…). Should be great fun and it’s free to watch.
