For the past week I’ve been out on the road with fellow author and performer Mike Barfield, taking our fabulous Oh-lympics Show to primary schools across North Yorkshire. The show is a one hour theatrical extravaganza of sports, places, events, jokes, sketches, history and more. It stars Jesse Owens, Steve Redgrave, Usain Bolt, Jessica Ennis, Baron Pierrre de Coubertin and his lavish moustache and Abebe Bikila (who ran the marathon in bare feet in 1960 and won gold). Even Hitler is in it!
So far we’ve visited Goldsborough, Staveley and Sleights and will be Carnagill in Catterick Garrison on Friday. Next week we’re at Holy Trinity Ripon, Bentham and Cragside in Newcastle with a car full of props (nearly 100 in total) and more fascinating info about the Olympic Games than you can shake a javelin at. 30 schools are booked in total. We are also attempting to break the world long jump record (8.95 metres) and so far have, well, er, not done it…
The shows have been great fun, especially the Reception Weightlifting Championships and our attempts to find a Y6 who can touch the Olympic record high jump bar. We might even learn the script soon…
