Events forthcoming

Well, it has been a most hectic few weeks since I last posted here. What has happened? I’ve played Pontius Pilate in an Easter drama for local primary schools (I think I scared a few kids – sorreee); I’ve visited Sunderland High School in a fab day with 4 other authors; I’ve done a busy burst of poetry at the friendly Moorside Juniors in Ripon; I’ve put the finishing touches to my next ‘All Teachers’ book in the series and I’ve written the exciting Oh-lympics Show along with author Mike Barfield.

I’m very excited about All Teachers Wise and Wonderful which is published in July (Hardback). The follow up book to All Teachers Great and Small has just been signed off by my editor who thinks it’s even better than book One of the series. The cover isn’t quite ready yet but here’s a peek:

The book will be launched at Hoppers in Malton, my local indie store, on Sat July 7th – please put this in your diary! As before there will be bubbly, nibbles, a fun crowd and a chance to be one of the very first to get a crisp new signed copy of the book. Everyone is welcome.
But before then I’m doing lots of other events. First, Mon 23 April is WORLD BOOK NIGHT and I shall be running an evening event again at Hope Central Coffee House in Malton 7.30-9.30pm. It was great fun last year and once again, everyone who books will get a free, er, book! This time I’ve chosen the very funny travelogue Notes from a Small Island by Bill Bryson. The evening will also feature the first ever reading from ALL TEACHERS WISE AND WONDERFUL, a number of keen readers sharing their favourite book, an author Q&A session and the fascinating story of how the All Teachers series came to be via Alan Titchmarsh. Refreshments are included and tickets are just £3: call the cafe on 01653 697796 to book yours!
Saturday 28th April is the launch of the All Teachers Great and Small paperback, at long last!  I shall be at WH Smith in Malton from 11am-1pm, signing copies and chatting to, well, whoever pops in. Please do drop by if you are local. The paperback makes a great pressie, of course…
First copy of the papberback. It just arrived this morning!
On Sat 5th May I shall be at Waterstones in York from 12-1pm, again signing ATGAS paperbacks. The same day I shall be at Scarborough Waterstones from 3pm. I would love to see any friends or ex-pupils who live near York or Scarboro. The following week will see me visiting Waterstones stores across Yorkshire: Bradford, Leeds, Northallerton and Wakefield.
From April to July I’ll be visiting 30 schools across the mighty North to perform the amazing Oh-lympics! show with Mike Barfield. This will be an action-packed celebration of the Games, covering its history, events and competing nations through sketches, poems, jokes (some good even), drama, audience interaction, song and more. More info here. It promises to be great fun and informative too – I can’t wait to try and break the world long jump record (yes, we are going to have a go… sort of.).
The idea for the show came from thinking about ways to encourage children to read. I thought we could use interest in the Olympics this summer to get kids wanting to know more, so Mike and I have written a fab 32 page booklet to accompany the show. It’s full of facts, info, cartoons, puzzles, lists, quizzes and things to do. And it’s only £2. Yes TWO QUID! Find out more here.
