National Poetry Day

I spent National Poetry Day in the excellent Kirby Hill Primary School near Boroughbridge and taught all of the children my Cheeky Pete rhyme. It always amazes me how quickly children can learn this little poem and how much they enjoy it. It’s based on an old playground wordplay and it’s good to know that the traditional stuff still works with today’s smartphone, social-networking kids.

The day was all the better for the awesome sharing lunch that the staff provided and the amazing provision of cups of tea by the school’s wonderful secretary. Thankyou!

The previous day I was at Leven Primary School near Beverley where the children were equally enthusiastic and the staff also very good company. The lemon cake in the staffroom was a thing of beauty too! Thanks everyone for another exciting day of poetic celebration and interaction.
