It'll have your head spinning like a discus, your heart racing like Usain Bolt, and leave you gasping for breath at the end of it!

What is 'Oh-lympics?'

It's a show for primary schools celebrating the 2012 Games through poetry, music, sketches, facts and fun audience interaction.

What age group is it aimed at?

The show is ideal for ages 7-11 but will be enjoyed by all primary school children. Our aim is to get children excited about the Olympics and sport in general, and to inspire them to read, write and to become creative!

Who is presenting the show?

The show is written and performed by two authors who are performance poets and also sports enthusiasts: Andy Seed and Mike Barfield. You can read about Andy on this site, of course, and Mike is a multi-talented writer who is also a cartoonist and ukulele player. He's worked in TV, writing for the Dennis the Menace show amongst other things. Find our more at www.mikebarfield.co.uk.

So, er, what kind of stuff is in the show?

The show will be a fast-paced mix of wordplay, songs and funny sketches mixed with information and facts presented in a memorable way using drama, props, jokes, and audience participation. It is guaranteed to get children interested, involved and inspired!

Is it just about London 2012?

No! There will be a huge amount in the media about the 2012 games this year so our show will focus on the bigger picture, helping children to understand the history of the Olympic Games and to learn about the various events which encompass it.

Where is the show being performed?

In your school! Andy and Mike both visit lots of primary schools every year and we are takingOh-lympics! on the road from Easter to the end of the summer term 2012. The show lasts one hour approx, and can be performed in any school hall.

How much does it cost?

£200 (+ VAT) for North Yorkshire Schools. Schools outside this county will need to pay travel expenses.

Is this just entertainment or will children really benefit?

As authors (and illustrators), Andy and Mike are passionate about promoting reading for enjoyment and a love of books in children. Our aim, through this unique show, is to inspire children to want to know more about the Olympics. With this in mind we are writing a special 32-page booklet for children to accompany the show: this will be full of fascinating facts, puzzles, lists, fun things to do, cartoons, jokes, quizzes and ideas for writing activities. As a former teacher Andy knows exactly how to appeal to this age group (7-11) and to boys and reluctant readers in particular.

TheOh-lympics: Knowing for Gold booklet will cost just £2 and will really grab children's attention: our aim is to create a buzz through the show that will have children reading, learning, thinking, talking and writing. More information here.

It sounds great but I'm reluctant to book someone I don't know…

Understandable! Please look on Andy's site and Mike's too to get some idea of our experience and background. We can provide testimonials from many schools, and Andy works closely with both North Yorks LEA (English Advisory Service) and NYCC Schools Library Service.
